Robyn Sandilands
I started my career in television journalism before moving to law. I have over 20 years of commercial experience and have worked for a wide range of organisations.
I trained in a top 50 UK firm and have moved sector, specialism, held senior management roles and led teams.
I had over a decade of experience as a disputes lawyer before moving in-house where I gained a huge variety of experience as a commercial lawyer, Head of Legal, Legal Director and latterly as Head of Compliance. I have a pragmatic, commercial approach to my legal work with a strong focus on client objectives and getting the job done.
As a professional trainer I have held coaching and mentoring roles, and alongside legal training, I focus on human skills training.
As a member of the Law Society In-House Committee I contribute to shaping the future of the In-House Legal industry.

Sam Sandilands
I am an energy, environment and net zero lawyer and co-founder at Sandilands Legal.
I split my time between senior in-house secondment work and specialist advice to clients in my areas of specialism - commercial contracts and regulatory advice in the energy, waste, utilities and low carbon sectors. I've been advising clients in these sectors since 2007 and have a deep understanding of the relevant markets, contracts and regulatory regimes. I also have extensive experience through acting for a variety of clients ranging from national power and utility companies to SMEs looking to develop small renewable electricity generation projects.
I also have expertise in environmental matters including on permitting, regulation, contaminated land, prosecutions and environmental and waste services procurements and PPPs. I regularly provide expert environmental and energy input into land transactions, M&A and financings usually as part of larger law firm’s teams on a white labelling basis.
I've been engaged on a number of secondments to national energy, waste and utility clients and have a deep understanding of how in-house legal teams work in these sectors and the issues and risks they have to advise on and manage.
